9.26.08 American Le Mans Series to implement first ever Green Challenge
As a long time supplier to professional teams competing in the American Le Mans Series, JE Pistons is proud to be part of the first ever Green Challenge.
On October 4th, the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) will hold the first ever Green Challenge during the Petit Le Mans race at Road Atlanta. Competing teams in all classes will be scored based on the amount of energy they use, greenhouse gases (GHG) emitted and the amount of petroleum they displace during the race. Scott Atherton, President and CEO of the American Le Mans Series expressed, "This has been an interesting and challenging process…with four different classes of cars, 14 auto and chassis manufacturers, and three different alternative fuels to take into consideration, a formula of how to create a fair competition with real time analysis and a format that is easy to understand and communicate has been very difficult. It has taken hundreds and hundreds of hours and involved some of the finest technical minds in the automotive and energy industries." The Green Challenge will continue during the 2009 ALMS season and encourage teams to develop technologies that allow vehicles to travel faster and farther with a smaller environmental footprint.
